Displacement pumps industrial applications

WatsonMarlowWatson-Marlow MasoSine positive displacement pumps are making a big impact in South African industrial applications and soaring sales have resulted in Watson-Marlow Bredel SA notching an impressive 500 per cent real time growth in the brand, over the past 12 months.

"It's the biggest real time growth for MasoSine pumps in the entire Watson-Marlow Group worldwide, " says Nico van Schalkwyk, Watson-Marlow Bredel SA general manager.

Van Schalkwyk was speaking at a recent awards ceremony in Johannesburg where Nick Moraitis, Watson-Marlow's sales engineer responsible for the industrial and environmental industries, was recognised for contributing 82 per cent of the total MasoSine pumps sales in 2011.

Van Schalkwyk pointed out that Watson-Marlow was a world leader in innovative sinusoidal pumps, tube pumps and hose pumps and offered simple, reliable and gentle pumping solutions, particularly for the food and beverage industry.

"Our low-shear MasoSine sinusoidal pumps maintain the integrity of whole food products and handle highly viscous products up to one million cP with ease. Our sinusoidal rotor overcomes the limitations of conventional rotary lobe, progressive cavity and diaphragm pumps to produce powerful suction with low shear, low pulsation, and gentle handling – all with simple and fast maintenance and 3-A certification," he said.

He said the MasoSine exclusive single shaft and single sinusoidal rotor were the centerpieces of an innovative and extremely simple design. With a single shaft and rotor, there is no need for the complex timing gears and multiple seals associated with conventional rotary lobe pumps.

"One rotor, one shaft and one seal equate to simple and economic maintenance compared to other traditional pump types that have two seals and metal-to-metal contact. The pumps also offer an increased flow rate range and handle higher viscosities without shear or cavitation. "

Other features included:

• Hygienic flows to 100 000 litres/hour.

• Pulse-free flow characteristics benefit flow control, heat transfer and filtration.

• Unique design provides minimal product damage and higher yields.

"MasoSine pumps are the result of over 25 years of engineering innovation and product development, resulting in one of the most efficient and reliable positive displacement pumps available. Customers benefit from less waste and faster processing with low shear, high suction, low pulsation and gentle handling of whole foods or highly viscous products," van Schalkwyk concluded.
