McCain Sweet Potato Chips excelled in the Product of the Year 2012 annual survey of over 5000 South African consumers. The brand was awarded top prize in the frozen vegetarian foods category at an awards event, on 2 February 2012.
Product of the Year is the world's largest consumer-voted award for product innovation. Operating in 28 countries, Product of the Year is aimed at guiding consumers to the best new products in their market and rewarding manufacturers for quality and innovation.
"It's the ultimate reward to get recognition from our consumers that we are bringing new products to the market that they enjoy. Our congratulations go to everyone involved in the launch of McCain Sweet Potato," commented Greg Foster, McCain marketing manager.
Since their introduction into South African homes, consumers have come out in support of the new McCain Sweet Potato crinkle cut chips, discovering a new way to try sweet potato. McCain Sweet potato, with its distinctive natural orange colour, provides an enticing side dish option or can be used to add colourful taste to a host of dishes including salads and stews.
In South Africa, the Product of the Year seal directs supermarket shoppers to products that have received the consumer stamp of approval therefore reducing the trial risk, saving them time and money. Having the Product of the Year seal of approval has also proven to have a direct impact on awareness, distribution and ultimately sales benefiting both the retailers and brand.
Product of the Year accepts entries from consumer packaged goods that demonstrate innovation and were launched within the previous year. Entries are then placed into specific categories such as food, beverages and personal care with a winner chosen from each category through a nationally representative online study conducted by A.C.Nielsen.
McCain Sweet Potato chips and roasts are available at all major retailers at a recommended retail price of R20,99.
