Can All Gold break South Africa’s saucy record?

FRV Online_All_GoldAll Gold will be attempting to become South Africa’s next saucy record-breaker with two attempts at setting new records on Saturday, 9 November 2013 at Fourways Crossing Shopping Centre in Johannesburg.

The first challenge will be to braai the longest piece of boerewors at 1km in length and weighing 1.3 tons.  After being braaied and cut into normal boerewors roll sizes, the second record attempt will be to ‘sauce up’ an estimated 5 000 boerewors rolls with All Gold sauces in three minutes.

The event was dreamt up by All Gold, suppliers of tomato sauce to the South African market since 1908. All Gold’s century of experience has never included an event like this before and has made available invitations to the public.

It is going to need thousands of people to sauce the giant boerewors, but the record-busters won’t be limited to tomato sauce. The All Gold range of other flavours will be squeezed out of bottles onto the rolls too. Hot and Spicy Tomato Sauce, Mustard, Barbeque Sauce, 1000 Islands, Peri-Peri, Sweet Chilli, Garlic & HerbMild Chilli or Very Chilli hot sauces are just some of the sauces that will be going on the wors.

All Gold_record_breaking_boerewors_roll_attemptThe logistics behind the attempts are complex with weeks of planning that could go up in smoke if the boerewors snaps. The sausage will start out at 1.1km, calculated to allow for shrinkage during cooking.

A master-butcher along with some South African celebrities has been recruited to create the sausage. Several lengths of boerewors casings will be bound together to make one mammoth piece of meat. It will be driven to Fourways Crossing Shopping Centre in a refrigerated truck and carefully unloaded onto a custom-made braai that has 52 braai bases welded together to be 32m long.

All Gold has assembled a team of 13 well-seasoned braai masters and 30 assistants. A total of 13 expert fire starters and stokers will also be in the line of fire to ensure the heat is just right.

Master of ceremonies Azania Mosaka will lead a countdown in the condiments area where guests will use litres of All Gold sauces to sauce the boerewors and claim the new South African record.

SA Book of Records will be the official adjudicator and will officially recorded and confirm the quantities and time it takes to complete the attempt.

A photo booth is available for attendees to capture the excitement. The event is by invite only on Facebook and no tickets will be sold. All Gold will also be hosting 50 children from the Johannesburg Children’s Home to share in the excitement.
