What makes this award so special?

The South African National Wine Show Association annually hosts the SA Young Wine Show, dating back to 1833, to award the top wines of the current vintage. The General Smuts Trophy is awarded to the best young wine, chosen from 1868 entries from wineries across South Africa.

The wine

The 2016 Badsberg Pinotage is a 100 per cent dark red pinotage with pink-purple tinge and robust red berry and plum flavours. The ripe plum and berry aromas are integrated with tannins to create the perfect balance for a lasting aftertaste.

Only a limited volume of 1716 units have been bottled and it is only available at cellar door or online at www.badsberg.co.za at R320 per bottle.

The cellar

Badsberg Wine Cellar is situated at the foot of the Badsberg Mountain in the picturesque Breedekloof wine valley, a mere 80km from Cape Town and 20km from Worcester, seven kilometres from Rawsonville and neighbour to the well-known Goudini Spa holiday resort.
