The new event, organised by Messe München International and its subsidiary MMI South Africa, will premier in Johannesburg on March 18 and 19 2014 at the Gallagher Convention Centre.

‘The Trade Fair will feature both open and closed sessions’, explains Elaine Crewe, CEO of MMI South Africa. ‘Open sessions are open to all visitors free of charge and the closed sessions will require a participation fee.’

The event has already drawn strong support from exhibitors and the trade fair is almost filled to capacity. It is targeted specifically to serve the African market, as Petra Westphal, exhibition group director of Messe München International explains.

‘Beverages and foodstuffs will be produced and consumed in Africa and that requires technically solid, efficient and reliable machinery and plants; the exhibitors at fdt Africa can provide exactly this. fdt Africa will bring together global manufacturers of food machinery, beverage technology and packaging machinery, with local manufacturers of the same kind.’

The open sessions will cover topics such as confectionery processing, energy savings sugar confectionary manufacture, improving shelf ready packaging, sustainable brewing solutions, solutions for beverage SMEs, and increasing profitability in dairy businesses.

The closed sessions will be carried out on the first day of the event, and will look at hygienic, safe and efficient production of high-quality food and beverages. Topics including food security in South Africa, energy in food processing, water minimisation in the food and beverage industry and strategies for responsible use of plastic packaging in the food industry will be covered by institutions and companies such as the University of Pretoria, Anelich Consulting, VDMA NuV Germany, Andrew Murray Consulting and Plastics SA.
