A team of food developers and branding experts have created a healthy alternative for one of the world’s most loved meals – pizza. It will be competing with other food and beverage products in the Food Review/Symrise New Product Competition.
Flab-U-Less’ new fat-free pizza has a 1.1 per cent fat content, is high in fibre and made with real fat free mozzarella cheese.
In 2004, Jennylee Roussouw was conducting research for the strategic launch of a new fat free product range for a large food brand in South Africa. Inspired by this experience, she planned the launch of her own fat-free brand and realised that it had to be the most popular food in the world to be successful. After years of development; input from various professionals in the food industry; and on-going research and taste tests, she has come up with Flab-U-Less Fat Free Pizza.
The product is one of the only of its kind in the world to deliver the authentic tantalising tastes and textures of the Italian favourite – with the difference of virtually no fat content. The pizzas are made with cheese with 95 per cent less fat than other cheeses, a crispy fat free crust of natural stone ground flour and patented fat-free Italian tomato sauce.
The packs of four pizzas are Margherita variants, allowing consumers to personalise the product at home. The food was analysed by Microchem Laboratories to ensure accurate nutritional information and packaging was completed in line with South Africa’s latest packaging legislation.
