Kemtek Imaging Systems and HP Indigo hosted an open house event on 3 August. This was held at Kemtek’s Centre of Excellence in Johannesburg.
Labels and packaging trends were among the topics discussed.
Riki Tzirin, senior account manager at HP Indigo spoke about the relationship between the consumer, brand and print service provider (PSP) during her presentation on Revolutionising the way brands go to market.
She spoke about consumers, particularly millennials, who demand customisation.
‘They [millenials] are, “the way I want it,” generation. Sustainability is important to them. They are conscious about their impact on the environment. Brands on the other hand value shelf appeal of products and want packaging that is engaging and innovative.’
Tzirin said brands and consumers place increasing demands on PSP’s. These requests include:
- Higher quality requirements
- Shorter runs
- More versatility and flexibility
‘PSP’s, especially those using HP Indigo technology, need to approach brands with exciting possibilities they can create to meet customers’ demands for something personal and unique.’
The value of labels
Tzirin addressed label manufacturers and printers on the importance of product shelf-appeal. ‘Product shelf appeal needs to be brilliant because consumers take a few seconds to select a product.’
According to Tzirin, the main drivers in the pressure sensitive label market are:
- Brand supply chains
- Emerging markets
