At Propak Cape 2014, to be held from 21 to 23 October at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, Marel will be showcasing innovative further processing and end-of-line technologies, including solutions for the production of boneless, bone-in, portioned, filled, sausage and potato-processed products. It’ll also showcase its fully integrated systems that can be uniquely tailored to your specific requirements.
The building blocks of all Marel’s solutions are the extensive range of stand-alone and modular products, such as:
- check weighers
- grading and batching equipment
- labelling and end-of-line ranges
- boneless portioning
- high-speed slicing
- standard scales
- x-ray bone detection
- weight grading through x-ray
It also offers traceability, stock, quality control, inventory control, stand-alone equipment. Innova is Marel’s production management and control software specifically designed for the wet food industry, and is focused heavily on the connection and control of Marel hardware, where traceability and production control is of paramount importance.
Rodney Macer-Wright, GM for Marel SA says: ‘Our end-of-line systems comprise stand-alone hardware and software from Marel’s vast range of products, all of which complement each other in terms of design, performance, data integration and overall compatibility. Through Innova, we’re enabled to offer fully integrated systems that allow for extensive live data gathering, to report on and control operation critical KPI’s – leading to better line performance and efficiencies.’
Macer-Wright describes Innova as an intelligent production software suite designed to monitor and manage the complete production value chain, from the reception of raw materials to packing and dispatch of finished product to the customer.
‘Coupled with our Innova alarm monitoring module, the uptime and performance of all our equipment can be monitored and reported on. This integration is present in standard Marel machinery such as automatic grading and batching machinery, weigh-price labelling, portioning machinery and more.’

First-of-its kind waterproof box labeller to be launched
Marel’s proven OCM9500 box and crate labeller has been upgraded with a waterproof chassis and indicator to withstand full washdown to IP69K, subject to the printer being covered or removed. This labeller is the first full wash down machine in the market.
To be introduced at Propak Cape, the machine is suitable for automatic weighing and labelling applications in both wet and dry production environments. The unit handles crates and boxes up to 40kg in weight, providing consistent weighing accuracy with automatic zero tracking.
Labels can be applied as a standard two sides, top and leading edge of the box by a combination of up to eight label applicators, including the printing of barcodes, best before dates, order details, product texts as well as warehouse tracking and traceability information. Long printhead life contributes greatly to the machine’s low running costs.
The OCM9500 is fully approved throughout Europe and selected territories for use in weigh-price labelling and check weighing applications. Innova Integration is available for production control and reporting purposes to assist the packing and dispatch process.
