he McCain plant has recently been awarded the Quality Award for 2016 in the Outstanding Performance Awards globally. This award is presented to an organisation that shows outstanding improvement in Key Elements of Quality (KEQ) compliance, reduction in consumer complaints due to foreign objects as well as having no adverse quality incidents in 2016.
The KEQ is the McCain Global Quality and Food Safety system that sets out the standard practices and procedures required in the facility. The Springs team conducted self-assessments focused on previous problems and issues experienced, in order to implement corrective and preventative actions in the plant. An audit was then conducted by the global director of quality systems at the plant. The result of the audit saw an excellent improvement in the previous year’s scores. These corrective measures have also meant that there has been a decrease in foreign material found in product as well as a reduction in customer complaints.
This award is awarded by the McCain Global Operations Support team. McCain has 45 manufacturing plants globally and all plants that meet the criteria set out by the Global Quality Council are considered for the award. Award winning plants achieve this level of excellence through meticulous organisation, remaining focused on the customer and by driving collaboration among team members.
‘This is a huge honour for the Springs plant and we are incredibly proud of the work being done there. This award is definitely testament to the hard work and dedication that the team at the Springs plant have put into maintaining and improving quality and food safety standards and how McCain always strives to give our consumers the best quality products that we can give,’ says Deolinda Da Costa, marketing manager at McCain South Africa.
