In NoMU’s search for quality and provenance, its Private Press Extra Virgin Olive Oil, produced in partnership with De Rustica, is the first of a range of products of origin that it plans to source and launch over the coming year.
The oil is available in beautifully designed 500ml and 1ℓ canisters, with an attractive and convenient flip-top cap for easier storage and pouring.
The range has been entered into the Food Review/Symrise New Product Competition for close scrutiny by an esteemed panel of judges and possible recognition as a top product in the country.
NoMU’s search for the perfect olive oil led it to De Rustica Olive Estate, situated in a picturesque valley in De Rust, deep in the Swartberg mountains of the Cape. Good soil, cold winters, pure mountain water and South African sunshine have created an optimal olive terroir.
Carefully selected Italian cultivars are hand-picked, pressed and blended to create an exceptional quality cold extracted extra virgin olive oil, with characteristic notes of freshly cut grass, a lingering peppery flavour and hints of walnut.
NoMU’s decision to partner with De Rustica was driven not only by the award winning quality of the estate’s oil, but also by its focus on sustainability and the social upliftment of a very economically depressed region. With the introduction of empowerment initiatives such as their Orchard Profit Sharing scheme De Rustica aims to develop a farm that benefits not only this generation, but those to come.
The oil range follows in the footsteps of NoMU’s Baking Kits launched earlier. The addition of an extra virgin olive oil to the company’s basket is long overdue, but a natural progression seeing that many of its products are enhanced by this essential ingredient.
