Top Employers_2014_-_Brenda_Lombard-Simba_HR_Manager_David_Plink-Chief_Executive_Top_Employers_Institute__Noelene_Gough-Simba_Talent_Manager_2For the third consecutive year, leading snack and beverage company Simba has again been named as one of South Africa’s Top Employers for 2014.

The Top Employers Institute globally certifies excellence in the conditions that employers create for their people. The company has just completed this year’s research into the employee conditions of a large number of employers in South Africa, and Simba is one of the few organisations that received the Top Employers 2014 certification.

Integrate global best practice

The certification programme is intended to assess and benchmark how local companies have managed to integrate global best practice into their people management practices. The outcome of the audit and certification is to recognise those companies who have implemented the best talent management frameworks and employee offerings.

It’s key to the Top Employers process (formerly known as Best Employers South Africa) that participating companies meet the stringent criteria in order to receive certification. The employers examined were assessed on the following criteria: primary benefits, secondary benefits and working conditions, training and development, career development, and culture management.

‘The success of Simba and its brands is anchored in its people and values. The company’s commitment to sustainable growth, defined as ‘Performance with Purpose’, ensures we lead positive change by investing in a better future for consumers, the environment and the 1 628 employees who represent the company throughout South Africa,’ comments Chereen Godwin, human resource director.

World-class people

The company recognises that sustainable growth hinges on attracting, developing and retaining world-class people. This is achieved by leading with vision and passion and empowering staff, while acting with responsibility and building trust among all its employees. This vision is supported by six core values: to care for consumers and the community at large; to only sell products the company can be proud of; to speak with truth and truthfulness;  to balance the short and long-term objectives;  to win with diversity and distinction; and to respect others and succeed as one company.

A career at the corporation is intended to be an accumulation of challenging experiences over the course of many years, with each experience contributing to the growth of the individual and organisation. The objective is to build the business by matching great talent with important opportunities in order to promote development in conjunction with relevant training and the ability to acquire critical experience.

As an employer, Simba boasts market-leading brands, a passion for growth through innovation, and a culture of shared principles. This has helped to position it as a market leader providing the local market with brands such as Simba, NikNaks, Fritos, Ghost Pops, Chipniks and Sunbites as well as a number of well-known global food and beverage brands including Lays, Doritos, Pepsi Cola, 7Up, Mirinda and Mountain Dew.

Simba forms part of PepsiCo, a multinational leader in convenience snacks, food and beverages with a wide range of brands that are loved throughout the world.
