In the early 1990s, Hostex formalised its partnership with the South African Chefs Association (SA Chefs). Under the leadership of the late Bill Gallagher, the SA Chefs Pavilion became a dynamic feature of the show, hosting culinary demonstrations, student competitions, and industry showcases. This collaboration added life and legitimacy to the event, making it a must-attend for culinary professionals.
Memories and milestones
Over the years, Hostex has introduced exciting features like the Global Pizza Challenge and hosted notable personalities such as DJ Jeremy Mansfield. Longstanding exhibitor relationships with brands like Adriatic Shipping and Vulcan have further cemented its reputation as a premier trade show.
Experimentation and evolution
From 2016 to 2018, Hostex expanded into Food & Hospitality Africa (F&HA), offering cross-industry engagement. By 2020, the event returned to its roots, focusing on industry-specific zones like Equipment Africa and Food & Drink Africa.
