The Sundays Organic Growers Association (SOGA) was formed 13 years ago when a group of South African organic citrus farmers got together to cooperate with each other in research, packing, logistics and marketing to grow and supply superior citrus to their customers around the world.
SOGA has entered the Food Review/Symrise New Product competition.
Due to the nature of organic farming and the lack of organic standards in South Africa, the percentage of fresh fruit not meeting the conventional export standards is much higher than in conventional farming. Therefore, in 2012 SOGA Organic was started, with its own Certified Organic processing facility, producing about 2 000 MT of Not-From-Concentrate (NFC) Citrus Juice and 6 MT of citrus oil annually, for the wholesale market.
It’s been the company’s vision since the beginning to one day supply the local retail market with South Africa’s first Certified Organic Citrus Juice products – a unique and healthy alternative to all the sugar-loaded juices in the market today. This vision became a reality in December 2015 with the launch of its first two retail products at a handful of selected Food Lover’s Market stores. This number has since grown to over 180 stockists, including Food Lover’s Market stores, Dis-Chem Pharmacies, Wellness Warehouse stores and many organic orientated stores/deli’s/restaurants countrywide.
As a small dynamic enterprise, SOGA is always looking for new and innovative products to launch, so it was no surprise that it launched its third product, Certified Organic Frozen Lemon Juice in January 2017. Another first in South Africa. If you’d like to add a zesty lemon taste to anything, this 10 ml sachet of pure Frozen Lemon Juice is the answer. With convenience in a bag, now you never have to run out of lemons ever again!
SOGA Organic products are Just squeezed & freezed – 100 per cent pure and natural! It contains no preservatives, no additives, no added sugar, no added water, no added colourings and no added flavourings. The only ingredient is the product and the product is the only ingredient.
Processing Citrus fruit can result in huge quantities of waste material. SOGA Organic we strives to effectively utilise the natural waste material by producing useful by-products. The SOGA Organic growers and processing plant have a zero-waste policy. Any unused waste is fed to its cattle, which provide the company with organic manure for its composting plant.
SOGA Organic is HACCP (Hazard analysis and critical control points), PPECB (Perishable Products Export Control Board), BRC (British Retail Consortium) Global Standards accredited & Certified Organic by Control Union. Organic Certification is only given after a thorough and long procedure, and it demands from the company the most serious and respectful attitude towards the consumers, the products, and the environment, from an ideological point of view.
SOGA is excited about the future of Organic produce in South Africa. Although South Africa is still far behind the rest of the world in terms of organic awareness, SA Consumers are becoming more aware, more informed and more demanding in terms of access to certified organic produce. SOGA Organic is proud to grow, harvest, produce and pack the first certified organic citrus juice in South Africa.
