Tetra Pak has announced the appointment of Wael Khoury as the new managing director for Southern Africa, succeeding Klaus Plenge.

Khoury, who took on the role in November last year, brings over 25 years of global experience within Tetra Pak. His leadership spans multiple regions, including Australia, the Middle East, and North Africa. This appointment underscores Tetra Pak’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and customer partnerships in one of its most dynamic markets.
Wael Khoury’s leadership journey
Khoury joins the Southern Africa team from his previous role as managing director of Tetra Pak Egypt Area. During his tenure, he achieved significant milestones, including:
- Developing Egypt’s first sustainable beverage carton recycling infrastructure in partnership with Uniboard for Paper and Board. This initiative has already processed over 2,500 tonnes of used beverage cartons, with a target of 8,000 tonnes annually.
- Leading a €14 million greenfield project in Libya, introducing advanced packaging and processing solutions to support local food production and economic growth.
A vision for Southern Africa
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Khoury stated, “I’m honoured to take on this new role and to continue building on the strong foundation laid by the Southern Africa team. Tetra Pak’s purpose – to make food safe and available everywhere – inspires us to do more for our customers, our people, and our planet. I look forward to working with our partners to advance sustainable growth, strengthen local collaboration, and bring innovative solutions that benefit the region’s food industry and communities.”
