Thokoman Peanut Butter, one of South Africa’s leading peanut butter producers, celebrates 25 years of delivering consistent quality and supporting communities.

Marking this milestone, the company has partnered with Hot 102.7’s Hot Cares initiative, committing R500,000 worth of peanut butter products to support vulnerable communities in 2026.
A legacy of excellence
What began as a small operation on the Van Randwijk family’s smallholding has grown into a market leader. Since its acquisition by the Basamh Group in 2009, Thokoman has scaled production while maintaining the highest global food certification standards. “Our sole purpose is to produce peanut butter of the highest quality that consumers will taste and love,” said David Sieff, head of marketing at Thokoman Foods.
Responding to market evolution
The peanut butter market has grown steadily, with consumption increasing by 3.8% annually from 2013 to 2024. Thokoman has adapted by diversifying its product range to meet consumer demands for health-conscious and convenient options. New offerings include no-salt and no-sugar alternatives, a squeezable smoother option, and a 125g mini tub for busy parents and cash-constrained consumers.
Commitment to food security
Thokoman’s 25th anniversary coincides with a renewed focus on food security. The R500,000 partnership with Hot Cares will provide peanut butter products to vulnerable communities, including schools and disaster survivors. “We recognise our responsibility extends beyond the supermarket shelf,” said Anis Tannir, MD at Thokoman Foods.
Production excellence and sustainability
Thokoman has achieved the highest global food certification standards, ensuring safety and quality. The company is also advancing sustainable packaging solutions, addressing the 34% of South African consumers who prioritise environmental considerations in purchasing decisions. As Thokoman enters its next chapter, it remains committed to delivering consistent quality and supporting South African families.
