Woodlands Dairy Group (Pty) Limited, renowned for its presence as a leader in the South African dairy sector, has successfully announced its acquisition of Ladismith Cheese Company (Pty) Limited. This strategic acquisition also includes Ladismith Powder Company (Pty) Limited and Mooivallei Suiwel (Pty) Limited, advancing Woodlands’ commitment to growth.

This move strengthens Woodlands Dairy’s ability to offer high-quality dairy products. It integrates Ladismith’s local expertise with Woodlands Dairy’s expansive capabilities to meet consumer demands more effectively. The acquisition ensures a stronger foothold in the dairy industry, enhancing supply chain efficiencies and customer product offerings.

Collaborative growth with Ladismith Cheese

By acquiring Ladismith Cheese Company, Woodlands Dairy achieves closer ties with farmers and expands geographical production facilities across South Africa. Commenting on the acquisition, Woodlands Dairy Group’s CEO Helen McDougall highlighted, “This transaction aligns with our vision to deliver sustainable and quality dairy products to a growing market.” She added that combining both companies’ strengths would lead to a more specialised portfolio.

Furthermore, Chairman Lex Gutsche expressed pride in Woodlands’ milestone achievement. With the acquisition, Woodlands Dairy emerges as the largest wholly South African-owned and 25% Black-empowered dairy group.

The acquisition incorporates Ladismith Cheese Company’s celebrated cheese, butter, and milk powder into Woodlands Dairy’s extensive product portfolio. Though regulatory conditions must be met, the decision aligns with the goals of leveraging organisational synergies and empowering operational excellence across both entities.

This opportunity allows both companies to work collaboratively towards serving their customers, preserving Ladismith Cheese’s established brand while benefiting from Woodlands Dairy’s robust leadership.

Sea Harvest Group CEO, Felix Ratheb, also acknowledged the sale’s impact on Sea Harvest’s goals of restructuring its focus on seafood while obtaining resources to reduce debt obligations in South Africa.
