Smart silos and grain storage technology will be the centrepiece of Marco Sutter’s presentation at the 8th African Agri Investment Indaba (AAII), taking place from 24 to 26 November 2025 at the Cape Town Convention Centre. Sutter, Managing Director of Bühler Southern Africa, will illustrate how these advancements are pivotal in addressing Africa’s food security challenges.
Innovative grain storage for Africa
Africa faces increasing food security issues, exacerbated by land degradation, climate change, and post-harvest losses. According to the World Bank, inefficiencies in transportation result in 37% of locally produced food being lost in transit. This is where smart silos and grain storage technology play a transformative role.
These innovative silos integrate IoT devices, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning to optimise grain storage conditions. Such technology prevents spoilage due to pests, moisture, or improper handling. By improving real-time monitoring, climate control, and predictive maintenance, Bühler’s smart storage solutions reduce post-harvest losses significantly.
“Minimising food losses is imperative in meeting Africa’s agricultural demands,” states Marco Sutter. He adds that Bühler’s advanced technologies present practical solutions to help Africa feed its growing population while reducing waste.
Bühler at the center of Africa’s agri transformation
The African Agri Investment Indaba serves as a premier platform, attracting over 800 stakeholders—investors, project developers, and policymakers. This key event focuses on the trends and forces shaping African agricultural development over the next decade.
Bühler’s commitment to Africa’s agricultural sector is clear: investment in tangible solutions capable of tackling systemic issues. Smart grain silos are central to this endeavour, ensuring preserved nutrition and resources while supporting economic growth. Bühler aims not just to present innovative products, but to build partnerships crucial for driving lasting impact.
Opportunities for collaboration at AAII 2025
The 8th edition of the African Agri Investment Indaba highlights collaboration across the agricultural value chain: from production and processing to storage and distribution. Bühler’s smart silo technology integrates perfectly with this approach, ensuring grains are protected from farmers’ fields to consumers.
“Collaborative solutions are essential to solving Africa’s food security problems,” concludes Sutter. Bühler aims not only to present innovations but also to establish partnerships with governments, investors, and industry leaders at AAII 2025.
