Since 1874, Symrise AG has been researching flavourful food ingredients. The company and Prof Thomas Vilgis, a project leader at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research and professor of theoretical physics at the University of Mainz, are working on a joint project to combine and add to existing expertise.

DuPont has divested its Natural Colors business, which is part of the DuPont Nutrition & Biosciences (N&B) segment, to DDW, The Color House. DDW is a global privately held company specialising in natural colour solutions for the food and beverage industry. The divestiture closed on 28 June 2019.

Acquisitive Israeli flavour firm, Frutarom, has acquired South African supplier, Unique Flavors (Unique) for R90-million. The transaction forms part of its goal to achieve a target of US$2 billion by 2020. Unique Flavors has a wide customer base in South Africa and other countries such as Ghana, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
It is often said that when one door closes another one opens. This was definitely the case for Johannesburg-based Flavourome. When a large supplier of powdered products decided to close shop at the end of 2015, the company saw a prime opportunity to build on the existing liquid capacity and forge its own entry into the seasonings industry.
After a successful first half, Symrise is confidently looking ahead to the second half of the year.

Frutarom Industries (Frutarom), one of the world's top 10 companies for flavours and specialty fine ingredients, announced end of January its 100% acquisition of the share capital of FoodBlenders for approximately US$2.4 million. The transaction was completed upon signing and is being independently financed. There is an additional sum expected to stand at about US$600 000, depending on the company's performance.
By popular demand, the Chilla Beverage Company has just introduced its Nu Metro Popcorn Sprinkles into retail outlets nationally. The product has now also been entered into the Food Review/Symrise New Product Competition.
According to market research institute, Innova, the number of ginger products is growing rapidly, especially in the beverages category. In Europe, the number of beverages featuring a ginger note (now a total of 132), nearly doubled in 2013 compared with the previous year.
